Redd's Art Guide

Post by Rukkukie » Sun Apr 26, 2020 4:41 pm

There are 43 pieces of art to collect.

(I'll neaten this up later, so that the side-by-sides are actually side by side and confirmed real/fake is stated)

The guide looks good so far. I know that in New Leaf, a few of the paintings did not have a fake version so we will need to look out for that this time around too.

We have the option of four pieces of art. Each playable character within the town can buy one piece (which is useful if you're not sure if something is fake or want a fake for some reason). I'm assuming that the majority of the time the paintings will only have one real art but Redd will need to come more to confirm that.

The Mona Lisa with eyebrows is one of my favourite edits they've done! Thanks for your images, I'll make up the pages for them all when I can.

If people could also include the name of the piece that'd be great! I've had a lot of weird descriptive google searches tonight haha.

Also keeping an eye out for the ones that don't have fakes - I got a Common Painting which traditionally hasn't had a fake and was real for me this time too. Still need to get a picture of it since it was my first one and is now in the gallery.

Redd can vary with how many are real, I've heard from 0-2 so far. If anyone has had 3 or 4 please say!

Gallant Statue: Fake, he's holding a book. Should have nothing in his hands.
► Show Spoiler
Serene painting: Fake, the critter (an ermine apparently) is the wrong color. Should be much lighter.
► Show Spoiler
Quaint painting: Fake, pouring too much milk. Should just be a small trickle.
► Show Spoiler
Glowing painting: Genuine. Per a different guide, this one is always genuine.

So here's a new thing to research: The forged art apparently has some spooky stuff going on. So far:
  • The Wistful Painting blinks (I think it changes from open to closed eyes between night and day)
  • The Scary Painting frowns in the day, but smiles at night
  • The Graceful Painting has a body-shaped stain on the backside
  • The Ancient Statue floats
  • The Informative Statue glows at night
Some of the effects are time-based, others are just hidden changes to the backsides. I know someone posted a painting with a key taped to the back, but don't know what painting it was. So if anyone buys the fakes, see if you can find any weird effects like this!
